H&S Made Simple – Step 2 – Your Health Safety Policy

Let’s get back to the basics of good Health and Safety practise. You have thought about who the competent person is for your business, and have started to take any necessary action, but what is the next step to focus on?

Step 2 – Your Health and Safety Policy

A health and safety policy expresses your company's commitment to health and safety. It should detail your approach to managing health and safety effectively, what you want to achieve, and how you will review and control this. Fundamentally it is a legal requirement to have one in place (and must be written down if you more than five employees), but more so it demonstrates to staff and others how you seriously you take your responsibilities. Think of it as who does what, when, where and how.

But don’t forget, a policy will only be effective if you and your staff follow it and review it regularly. The policy should be freely accessible to all employees, and adequate training is essential.

Should you need any help or advice defining your policy, and ensuring it is suitable and sufficient, Triquetra EHS can help provide this.
